How Much Does Resin Flooring Cost Per m²?
What actually drives the price of a resin floor — system type, thickness, preparation, area size and access — and the honest cost ranges we quote against.
Resin flooring is priced per square metre, but the rate on its own tells you very little. Two identical-looking 1,000 m² floors can differ by a factor of three once system, thickness, preparation and access are taken into account. This is what actually moves the number.
System and thickness
Thickness is the single biggest driver, because it is essentially how much material goes on the floor.
- Epoxy high build coatings at 0.5–1 mm are the most economical way to seal and protect concrete.
- Epoxy self-levelling at 2–4 mm costs substantially more, because material volume rises with every millimetre.
- Polyurethane HF screeds at 6–12 mm sit higher again, and they are specified where wash-down, thermal shock or chemical attack rule out epoxy.
- MMA systems carry a material premium, which is usually justified by the downtime they save rather than by the floor itself.
Surface preparation
Preparation is not an optional line item. Every resin system needs a sound, clean, open-textured substrate, and how much work that takes depends on what is already there.
- A clean power-floated slab may only need diamond grinding.
- Oil-contaminated workshop concrete needs degreasing and deeper mechanical removal.
- An existing failed coating has to come off entirely.
- Weak or spalled concrete needs repair before anything is applied.
- Damp slabs without a damp-proof membrane need a DPM build-up first.
Area and access
Rate per m² falls as area rises, because mobilisation, setting up plant and protecting the surroundings cost roughly the same for 200 m² as for 2,000 m². Small rooms, corridors, plant rooms and heavily obstructed areas cost more per m² than open floor. Hand-carrying material up stairs, working within a live building, or installing in short overnight windows all add cost.
Detailing
Coving, upstands, drainage falls, bund linings, anti-slip zones, line marking and colour changes are separate items. On a food factory floor they can add a significant share of the total, and they are the elements most often left out of a cheap quotation.
Programme
Working nights, weekends or in short possessions costs more in labour but often less overall, because production keeps running. Fast-cure MMA is priced higher per m² and can still be the cheapest option when a day of lost output outweighs the material premium.
What we do
We do not publish a single headline rate, because it would be misleading. What we do issue, after a site survey, is a written quotation stating the system, the number of coats, the thickness, the preparation method, the detailing included, the m² rate and the return-to-service times for foot and vehicle traffic. If the specification can be simplified to save money without compromising performance, we say so before you order.
